  The Roast of Flavor Flav

rating: (out of 4 stars)

United States; 2007; aka Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav
Directed by Joel Gallen; executive produced by Joel Gallen; hosted by Katt Williams
Starring Flavor Flav; roasted by Katt Williams, Greg Giraldo, Sommore, Jimmy Kimmel, Ice-T, Jeffrey Ross, Carrot Top, Brigitte Nielsen, Patton Oswalt, Snoop Dogg, Lisa Lampanelli

Once again a bunch of comedians take a swing at a certain person. This time the target is Flavor Flav, which admittedly seems like the easiest one out there. Wearing both a Viking helmet on his head and a clock around his neck, this guy is just waiting to get some puns thrown at him. Real comedians and artists from other branches made this show an entertaining happening, although there were some weaker moments.

Host Katt Williams did a nice job, but it is obvious he is no Jimmy Kimmel, who stays my favorite when it comes to things like these. Kimmel did appear as the third roaster and did a fine job as always. The better known comedians, when it comes to roasts, were divided over the entire show. Greg Giraldo started, Kimmel third, Jeffrey Ross fifth, Patton Oswalt eight, and Lisa Lampanelli tenth and last. This brought a nice balance to the show.

In between there were less funny but still enjoyable parts from Sommore, Ice-T, Carrot Top, Brigitte Nielsen and Snoop Dogg. Especially the two rappers did a surprisingly good job (even though I already enjoyed Ice-T during 'The Roast of Hugh Hefner' back in 2001). Brigitte Nielsen's performance was less impressive, but as a non-comedian at least she tried.

Flavor Flav himself ended the show in his usual loud manner. He was not that funny, repeating many other jokes. Still, he was a goob sport receiving a large number of jokes about race, size and having sex with Brigitte Nielsen. It's all in good fun, and that makes these events worth watching. Everything seems to be allowed, and since no one gets offended (if there is chance you will, do not watch it) I am easily able to appreciate it.
