Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

'Alien 3' is a lesser film than both its prequels, but it contains enough entertaining stuff to recommend it. Still, after the great 'Alien' and 'Aliens' it does feel as a disappointment. Sigourney Weaver stars again as Ripley. The film has her character right; after all the violence she has seen and all the danger she has been in she has become a tough lady, due circumstances even bold to give her the tough appearance as well.

In a way the story goes back to the first 'Alien', with only one creature they have to destroy. They, including Dillon (Charles S. Dutton) and Clemens (Charles Dance), are prisoners on the planet where Ripley crash-landed after an alien on board her ship caused some trouble. Other survivors from 'Aliens' are killed so it gives director David Fincher the possibility to start all over again. The story has some secrets for us, but basically we see the prisoners killed off one by one before they think of a plan that might kill the alien.

Although the film itself is not that great there are some aspects or certain moments that work quite well. The original alien looked more human than the one here, probably because this one popped out of a dog instead of a human. Therefore the thing looks and is faster, giving Fincher, in his first feature film, the chance to show us what he can do with a camera. Some of the single shots he gives us are really impressive. I also liked Ripley's appearance and the way it fits both her character and the story.

But unfortunately in the end 'Alien 3' is simply not as scary or intelligent as the first films. This is a film more by the book, predictable in most ways, going for the usual scares that might work for some from time to time. For me the entertainment could not been found in that area, but like I said, there are other things.
